You may have even read my recent review of the 12V Ractchet from said lineup. I mean, almost 6, people have summited Mt. Everest, but Sir Edmund Hillary is probably the only one you can name. As you would expect, the BWP was designed with professional users in mind.
The rubber grip is comfortable and bumpers adequate for their purpose. The variable speed trigger and electronic brake make the operation smooth, even in more finesse applications. I like that the bell housing is finished in satin rather than full polish as it will stay looking better, longer. The selector switch is positioned nicely. The LED light stays on for after the tool is disengaged and is merely adequate.
Unlike the 12V line, the 20V line does feature the on battery status gauge. High torque impacts are very hard to test in an end user setting. There are certain fasteners like rusty trailer hitch balls and Honda crank bolts that have a reputation for being stubborn, but even then the results are less than conclusive. To provide a unique test, I removed my trailer hitch ball using the BWP I let the Loctite cure for about 6 hours, and put the BWP in charge of taking it back off. My point was to try and simulate a few years of rust and crud in the threads.
As you see the BWP came through without much hesitation in what was in reality, a pretty tough test. I reapplied the nut and Loctite in the same fashion, and repeated the test with a 12 hour cure time. I performed the same test on the W awhile back and had pretty much exact results. Our kit came with 2 XR 3. With intermittent use we had all day run time out of one pack. The Mac has the best balance in my opinion, but there are things I like about all 3. The chart below compares the specs of the 3.
Looking at the chart we see some very competitive numbers. When compared to the IR, Mac comes out ahead in 3 categories, though they are almost identical in length and weight. In the grand scheme of things the differences between the 3 are pretty negligible. So I called and asked them. We know that there is no industry standard as to how torque ratings are calculated for power tools, but it turns out that developing some of these ratings is kinda like a choose your own ending novel.
There are so many variables like bolt type and size, thread factors, air pressure, CFM, etc. Back in November, CopTool did a side be side comparison of the and Even using a Skidmore machine they were reluctant to confirm or deny the manufacturers torque claims. As with Dewalt, Mac has taken the high road by simply not publishing an unstandardized rating to grab your attention. Am I saying other manufacturers are being dishonest in publishing one?
Overall the BWP is a nice gun. The real winner in this torque rating renaissance is the end user. Thanks for the excellent review Travis! I am very surprised to see that Mac has been able to get anywhere near the power of the or W In the real-world applications that I have put them up against, neither has failed at anything…….
Looking at the numbers you listed for the Mac, it seems that this could be the 3rd impact out there that could achieve that…. I hope instead of the companies focusing on more power, they switch over to focusing on longer run-times.Though they feature this technology on the inside and are fully compatible with DeWalt 12V Max and 20V Max battery systems, our battery powered impact tools are still designed with the same focus on the automotive market as all of our other products.

Header Image.Hand-arm vibration HAV from regular use of hand-held power tools is known to cause significant problems to operators' blood vessels, nerves and joints.
New Health and Safety Executive HSE legislation for HAV in workshops aims to address this issue by placing strict limits on allowable levels of vibration produced by power tools in garages and workshops. To ensure its range meets legislative requirements, Mac Tools has embarked on a programme of product testing, with six of its power tools passing the rigorous HSE process to date. The AWP features a feather throttle and over-moulded grip for maximum operator control, as well as one-hand power adjustment and one-hand reverse system.
The AWP also has a greatly reduced weight compared to others in its class, and increased durability, due to its titanium housing. The new HSE legislation has also prompted some vehicle manufacturers to initiate their own test programmes in order to approve hand tools for workshop use.
Mechanics will then only be able to purchase products that meet the acceptable levels, with approved tools being added to an authorised list distributed to workshops. The decision to test and to approve products to meet HSE legislation will have a significant impact on the automotive tool sector.
An increasing number of manufacturers and dealerships are certain to be focusing on this change and at Mac Tools we are delighted that the majority of our tools are meeting, and in the case of the AWP, exceeding requirements already.See your Authorized Matco Tools distributor for warranty or return information on purchases made offline.

Sound dB a Please click on an image below to play the video. Rated 5 out of 5 by cawarner from Awesome! Just got this today and it is night and day compared to other name brand impacts. It's not the lightest gun out there but it certainly isn't the heaviest by any means. The muffler is removable to make an even quieter if you really wanted to but man it's plenty quiet anyway.
The torque on this thing is ridiculously strong and according to Matco the strongest on the market at the moment. Marco did great with this! Date published: One of 2 techs at a fleet shop and my boss has us use it when we cannot fit the 1" gun in a tight spot.
I've had many bolts frozen in place, and just set the gun forward and snap the bolt no problem. When I worked in the automotive dealerships co-workers would barrow it for stuck lugs alot. My dad got it as a gift when I started wrenching when it first came out.
By far the best. As a side note, was able to keep working with it when I broke my hand, the 1" I was able to use for about 2 min before it hurt Date published: I had it rebuilt at year 2 and unfortunately then cage and hammers let go just before year 4 was finished but I replaced it with another MT!
I used to work in the heavy equipment field doing underground mining equipment. Rated 5 out of 5 by andrew from great impact i have had all of the "top of the line impacts" first i bought the timax liked it alot but when it couldnt get honda crank pully bolts loose and my coworkers mg could i decided to buy the mg from snap on at first it was great awesome torque but 3 months later it broke down had it rebuilt one month after that it broke again so i sold it.
It took some time but it removed 10 lug nuts on a front discharge concrete mixer that were put on with a 1" Ingersoll Rand impact. Very impressed with the torque of this impact compared to my IR Ti that I've been using for years. My only complaint about this gun is the forward and reverse controls are hard to operate compared to the IR controls. It is a great tool and is worth the price Date published: Use it for wheels, suspension and exhaust and everything comes out with just one ugga dugga.
Matco should come out with an all black one Date published: Rated 5 out of 5 by Tech01 from It Works Like an impact should, has more than enough torque to get any job done. The impact works well for any job. Has more than enough torque for any automotive work.
